What Is Tanning 

Tanning is the process of treatment of animal hide or skin to convert it into leather. The process converts the proteins found in animal hide into a stable material such that it is protected against chemical actions. The two most popular methods of producing leather are: veg tanning and chrome tanning

Vegetable Tanned Leather

The vegetable tanning process is a traditional, natural method used to turn raw animal hides into durable, high-quality leather using organic materials like tree bark, leaves, and roots. Unlike the fast, chemical-heavy chrome tanning method that uses harsh minerals, vegetable tanning avoids chromium salts entirely. The entire process is a slow, artisanal craft that takes anywhere from 30 to 60 days to complete

Chrome Tanned Leather

The chrome tanning process is a modern, fast method used to turn raw animal hides into soft, flexible leather using mineral salts, specifically chromium sulfate. Invented in the late 1800s, this chemical-heavy method completely changed the leather industry. While vegetable tanning takes weeks, chrome tanning can turn a raw hide into finished leather in just 1 to 2 days. Today, about 80% to 90% of the world's leather is made this way.
